I've had so many ****** teachers that can't get fired because of tenure. No other industry has that crazy practice... teachers are employees. very important employees for society. and they should be rewarded based on merit, not rewarded based on the fact that they've been at a job for 3+ years

I'm sorry you have had bad teachers. I'm lucky I was never in that situation. But tenure is really important, especially now with the limited amount of jobs and the amount of young people coming out of college looking for jobs. These are good people that would make excellent lifelong teachers, and the office politics get in the way of educating the kids - one of the most important jobs in our country imo - and having tenure takes a little bit of the everyday stress away. Teachers are moved around buildings and school districts yearly, sometimes even bi-annually. Positions are changed or cut. Especially in special education. All of these changes have impacts on the classroom. It's not good for the health of the teacher or the effectiveness in the classroom, and it tears my heart up that Christie doesn't support public education because it is one of the most important things in this country.
