It's just culture. In Japan people of all ages play Mario and Zelda games, it's only in other parts of the world those games are seen as childish.

They make consoles and games that try to appeal to the whole family, not just kids. IMO, it's quite immature of these so called "hardcore" gamers to dismiss family friendly content as kiddie. Same thing goes for classic Disney movies.
