Don't act like "Unconditionally" didn't sound like a hit at all. I (personally) like it and people around me too. It just happened to not click with the majority, but that's not a tragedy. It's also not experimental at all, it's a typical HAC flavoured pop tune, and we know she smashed with similar songs before. "Dark Horse" is already doing well, so... And I'm happy with it.
The problem with Unconditionally was that she sings these ass long notes throughout this song, this connects only with the GP today when Adele sings it.

Bring some rhythm in a Katy song and it works.
You may be right. "Thinking Of You" is one of my favorite songs by her and it peaked even lower. shame.
Katy's radio success is because her songs blur the lines between rhythmic and adult pop perfectly. Unconditionally picked a side and PD's were NAWT having it.
On Sirius radio today I head Timber 6 Times and The Monster 4 Times. Are these counted on the airplay charts? I just don't know how Sirius works when it comes to the charts.

Good question. I never knew if satellite radio counted toward the airplay charts.
Katy chose Unconditionally because it was her favorite. It wasn't like the song damaged the era or anything. If they really cared about the charts, they probably would have switched to DH due to its overwhelming response.

I know the artist still gets paid every time, but that's all I knew. I should also point out Z100 out of New York and KISSFM out of LA are both on Sirius now so i assume those count. Seriously those stations play The Monster and Timber a crap load of times. haha. I basically go between Octane and the pop stations. My dad's package doesn't have Shade45. lol. Or else I would listen to that most of the time.
