I think this is great, but I wish people weren't so focused on race and gender as to feel like they need to point out that fact that there's no black female currently in the cast.

I watch the show without making note of ethnicity.

there are TONS of talented african-american females out there
choosing not to hire them and looking in pools of white people and men is limiting, it's discriminatory, and it's not forward-thinking at all
snl once claimed that they hadn't hired any women of color because they just hadn't found any, and i'm really embarrassed for YOU that you would probably accept that statement as understandable, true, explanatory for the situation
in reality, if snl says they can't find a woman of color for their show it's because they're not LOOKING
it is 2013, no more damn excuses for not including people of color and women in media
they are out there and they are plentiful, these shows need to TRY

good for you, but the color-blind argument just ignores the history we have in america
acting like since it's 2013 that we can just ignore race and gender and just be "merit-based" and not make considerations about those factors is far too idealist and completely ignores the problems we've had with discrimination in the US and continue to have with it

given that we live in a society that was framed in patriarchy and white superiority (and one could even argue heterosexism, but that is slightly beside the point), trying to be color and gender blind won't work -- that would only work & be ok if we had eliminated racism, sexism, etc.
what we're doing NOW - including these people on tv and making conscious efforts to heal past discrimination - is sort of a middle step, because by doing so we can eventually get to that blindness idea where it wouldn't matter anymore
but as long as it does matter and as long as that history is fresh and still impacting the modern day, ignoring race & gender & even sexuality will just lead to a bunch of straight white dudes on tv like we had back in the day
