TRASH!!! The amount of hatred I have for this band is really beyond all comprehension. This song is pretty much every bad trend of Pop music in 2013 into one terrible song. Terrible lyrics, a chorus that tries way too damn hard to sound more thought provoking than the song actually is, and TERRIBLE production. What's worse than the generic AC "folksy" music? Well, this, apparently. To me, it sounds like someone tried to mix the worst of those obnoxious "anthemic" house songs (Don't You Worry Child, Wake Me Up) and with some Phillip Phillips/OneRepublic/Coldplay nonsense. Ugh. The way the singer enunciates stuff grinds my gears too. Every wrong word and syllable is emphasized making the song AWKWARD as hell. But people love it apparently, because it's all people talked about for the last semester at my school. UGH.
OMG! This one is even worse. Lyrically, probably the worst song of 2013, maybe rivaling the inept Girl on Fire and Drive By? I can't believe humanity in America is at the point where they still think this **** is acceptable. It's the boring prototype of the stupid "I am troubled so im breaking up with u because i will hurt u" lyrics. Give me a break, he's just being a douchebag. Except the diction in the song makes it so much worse. Words like "beast," "kingdom," and "demons" (well duh) are dropped regularly. They try hard with more medieval-like words to make the song seem "artistic" (let's be honest this is exactly what they're doing) but it just makes them seem like trivial 17 year old boys. This is trash of the (2nd) HIGHEST level. These types of songs are the worst breakup tropes and this is like the worst of them all. Give me a break.
in terms of lyrics. none of the songs (even the #1) here are as bad as girl on fire. only reason it wasnt on my list last year is bc i hadn't heard it.
