If Gaga always looked like this we wouldn't be in the mess we're in.
Looking good and having catchy music isn't "art" to Lady Gaga. "Art" to Lady Gaga is being
"weird" and having "nonsensical lyrics" with "strange" productions. Her perception
of what art is is deluded, but again, she's not self aware enough to see that.
The only thing I don't like about this release is that labels are going to put more effort on people buying digital albums which mean less attention to streaming
This strategy isn't going to work for everyone. In fact it'll barely work for anyone. The reason Bey is doing so well is because of the videos for each song, the fact that she spent a whole entire year promoting herself and teasing music, and the huge tour she did. There's been a huge drought for Bey and they planned it all really well.
If say Taylor just dropped an album, there's no way it'll do her usual numbers. Same goes for all the other pop girls, they NEED hit singles before releasing albums.
I could see Lil Wayne dropping TC5 and breaking tons of records in this manner tho.
And this is her best album, more textured than its predecessors in both sound and content. Big-hook message pop (“Pretty Hurts,” “XO”); multi-directional, mood-shifting suites (“Haunted,” “Partition”); and delicately resonant R&B ballads (“Rocket,” “Superpower”)

But what’s most interesting about Beyoncé is hearing (and watching) a performer so tied to a singular trope (diva-pop R&B) move into a different lane, albeit subtly and gracefully.
Her last record, 2011's relatively mellow 4, hinted at a change with more mature themes and a more pronounced Motown influence, but unlike Madonna or Rihanna or Gaga, Beyoncé’s never needed to completely reinvent herself: She’s the pageant queen of pop, and here she triggers a seismic shift simply by letting her hair down — just a little, and totes flawlessly — in order to be just a touch more relatable. And it’s so fun.

On “Mine,” written by Drake and Noah “40” Shebib, she does her best Drizzy; he features (and continues to make a case for himself as a better singer than rapper), but is obviously outperformed.

The result is artistic click bait, and its genius and connective power is that it doesn’t treat music fans as factions. This one is for everyone, all at once.

...Vin
This is all true.
''Poker Face'' is more art than anything on her last two records.
She had the Warhol thing then, without trying to hard. With the name, the OTT drag/glam look, the ideology on fame and success... she was like an old Factory queen like Holly Woodlawn.
Gaga done ruined her career with her silliness. Some people do better with smaller budgets.
I know I've posted this a thousand times but I LOATHE this gif. EVERYTHING in it is just WRONG. Her looking, acting, and moving like a 50 year old granny (I know she wants to be the next Madonna but girl..); that embarrassing Born Brave Bus; all those insecure bullied children that have stereotyped her because she desperately pandered to them
What does it mean to be a woman, especially a woman of color, in America in the year 2013? We’re writing about that difficult, important, and rewarding question in myriad articles, discussing it across a multitude of social platforms, and seeing it debated in political forums both mainstream and microcosmic. It seems at best silly and at worst impossible for an album of pop music to attempt to parse out the answers to these questions, but that’s exactly the length of Beyoncé’s ambitious reach with her complicated, fascinating self-titled surprise album. That Beyoncé even begins to manage to answer that question is impressive.

Ex-squeeze me, but I'm offended on Madonna's behalf. 50 is too young for Gaga's polio survivor piece of crap dancing.
Try 90 year old, drunk at a family Xmas party and just after crapping into her adult diaper.
