Lorde may have wrapped up a pretty remarkable 2013 by heading back to New Zealand, but she still found time to knock out a quick Reddit AMA session on Sunday.
In the chat, the 17-year-old sensation revealed (surprise, surprise) that she's currently lining up a run of U.S. festival dates next year and has big plans for upping her merch game — you can expect "embroidery" — but she also took a moment to reflect on her breakout year, and what she's learned about the music industry on her ride to the top of the charts.
"I feel like I learned early on how things worked, and that gave me a good understanding of what could be f---ed with/which rules were dumb and shouldn't have to be followed," she wrote. "Plus, I can sit down with basically the most intimidating people in the industry and not flinch. And maybe even make them flinch ... or cry. Heh."
Lorde also took a moment to discuss her favorite films ("Fight Club" and "Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory" — "1971 version," she clarified), and big up Nicki Minaj for her stance on feminism — linking to her famous pickle juice speech. And then, she weighed in on one of the year's most pressing topics: the similarities she shares onstage with a certain "Lord of the Rings" antagonist: Gollum.
"I know when I'm onstage, I don't think about how it looks, I just concentrate on really feeling what I hear," she wrote. "But
I totally know I look like Gollum when I perform, so it's cool."
