XO has lines like kiss me before out time has run out, love me before they turn the lights out and we don't have forever. I think the significance of using that audio clip of the response to what was going on with the shuttle so unexpectedly was to highlight how quickly things can change and we should appreciate our lives and loved ones NOW because our time isn't guaranteed.

I don't think it's tacky how she used the clip considering the context of the song.

I definitely think that probably had a lot of impact on her in a way. Houston is so connected to NASA seeing that there's a hub there, plus the first Black astronaut Ron McNair and two of the earliest female astronauts died in the Challenger explosion as well. Being a little kid in Houston at that time she probably heard a lot about it and it probably resonated and stuck with her.

Edit: Random fact, Ron McNair graduated from my school. The engineering building is named after him.

The maturity level

I really didn't understand the significance of that being in the beginning of the song.
But then again I still don't get those noises at the end of Partition.

Maybe it's just used to emphasize how life can change so quickly in a matter of seconds. I still love the song but I was wondering where that intro was from. XO's theme does seem to be about love before death.
