Shane was actually the reason why TC tested out a formula of different level moderators. From my "moderator class" of Matty, Celestial, and I, there were three levels created:
Level 3: Open, close, move, delete threads and posts, review help requests and reports, warn members
Level 2: Level 3, plus: Edit posts, merge threads, ban and unban members arbitrarily outside of warning system
Level 1: Levels 2 and 3, plus: Approve new user registrations, edit users, manage smilies and icons
Level 1 was basically the administrators and site owner; Level 2 was the more senior moderators and Celestial; Level 3 was Matty and I, sometime midway through 2011, our privileges were bumped up to Level two and he just did away with the levels where all moderators had equal authority (basically it was a trial before giving new mods full control of the site as precautionary measures I would assume). The moderator classes that followed ours didn't have to go through that step, though as you know Retro, we're doing the trial and quarterly audits now for the staff.
