#1 albums, it shows people like your work as a whole, not just one song.

Having a #1 is prestigious, but sales are more important.

Taylor is a super-queen because of how dominant her album sales have been - top seller from 3 different years, unprecedented since The Beatles.

I don't understand why being a Rihanna stan is any sort of negative at this point when in fact, she is the most consistent album and singles seller.

I wouldn't say she's the most consistent album and singles seller cause...

- Adele: 3 #1 singles - 13 Million albums sold
- Taylor SwifT: 1 #1 single - 20 Million albums sold
- Lady Gaga: 3 #1 singles - 9 million albums sold
...
- Rihanna: 13 #1 singles - 10 Million albums sold

Not only her album sales are super low considering the amount of #1's she has, but also, her average is like 1.3 million per album while the other girls' average from 2.5 to 7 million.

I'm gonna say #1 single because my fave would likely get the #1 album anyways, considering how popular Adele is. I mean, obviously I'd prefer she got both and both are obviously achievable, but I'd say she'd be more likely to get a #1 album, so... I'm gonna say #1 single.

I think for albums, sales is way more important than chart position. That's why lots of big artists release during this busy season for the boosted sales, even though there are more competitions, which means smaller chance to hit the top.

Moreover, it's so much harder to get a #1 single than a #1 album. Just count the number of #1 singles and #1 albums each year. Also count the number of artists who have had at least a #1 single in the US and those who have had at least a #1 album.

#1 albums are much more important. I'd rather somebody spend $10 on my music than $1.29. A number album says that the GP trusts that you're a worthy artists and collectively viewed buying your whole package as a priority that week. Chances are ANYBODY could have sang that rinky dink #1 single and the GP would have felt the same way about it regardless.
