Not even 10 years ago everyone would say Merry Christmas. But now that we live in this politically correct world it has now become offensive to say, or display it anywhere. I personally think that it is so ridiculous that one can't say a greeting without someone else getting all hot and bothered because that's all it is...a greeting. I'd much rather prefer someone say to me "Happy Hanukkah" than "Happy Holidays" because it's more personal. And all these commercials where they are clearly celebrating Christmas but are forced to say Happy Holidays even though Hannukkah is over and almost no one celebrates Kwanzaa like no...
This has nothing to do with 'political correctness'
also i've never been told to say happy holidays and i've never seen it anywhere. i live in the north of the uk in an area with high muslim population and neither them nor anyone else cares.
I work in retail, in the US, and I always say "Happy Holidays". It's just my personal preference.
2 years ago, during my first holiday season in retail, I told someone "Happy Holidays" and he got all crazed about it, and asked if that's what my company told me to say, and I told him, no, that's just what I prefer to say. I'm not so ignorant to believe that everyone around me celebrates Xmas. My favorite co-worker is a muslim lady, for example.

Like I said, it's a greeting. It's not like when you say it you're forcing the person to practice Christianity. People are so sensitive now a days
I refuse to say Happy Holidays. But since I live in Canada (very multicultural), most people say Happy Holidays but I purposely would respond with a Merry Christmas to you too!!
I mean, Christmas is more than what you celebrate at home right? Especially in the US it's like the whole month December is revolving around it, so everyone has to experience the Christmas time.
So when you say 'Merry Christmas' you are just wishing them a happy time the next couple of days.
Saying Happy Holidays is extremely ridiculous I will never understand it.
The TV commercials always say it, but in real life I hear everyone saying "Merry Christmas" though. I mean, Christmas has become something celebrated by everyone, not just Christians, so it should be Merry Christmas.
I say Merry Christmas to those who are going to celebrate Christmas and Happy Hannukah when someone is celebrating Hannukah. But since Hannukahs over I guess Ill just say Merry Christmas
But I do agree saying Happy Holidays seems impersonal I mean Halloween, Easter, Independence Day, Valentines Day etc are all "holidays" but we dont say Happy Holdays then.
"Happy Holidays" if I don't know the person's specific religious identication. I work in retail so if I say anything at all I just say "happy holidays" because it's a bit rude to just assume someone else's religion.
Plus for whatever reason people where I live get in a tizzy over "happy holidays" because of that whole "MUH CHRISTIAN VIEWS ARE BEING OPPRESSED, PUT THE 'CHRIST' BACK IN 'CHRISTMAS BECAUSE AMERICA IS A CHRISTIAN NATION'" nonsense and it's always fun to bother those types of people.
