Global superstar Katy Perry has revealed she is now paying little attention to what people say about her, confessing she is the “captain” of her career.
The 29-year-old singer, who is very much loved-up in her relationship with John Mayer, has also ditched Google alerts to avoid seeing what the public are saying about her.
"I am the captain of my career. But I am also Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, which is my real name," she told Joy magazine. "My image is just something superficial. I also try not to pay attention to what other people think of me.
“I used to have Google alerts set up, which would notify me about everything that was being written about me. But I've stopped all that now. After all; there are more important things in life."
Even though the 'Fireworks' hitmaker is notorious for her colourful and bold outfits, Perry will always dress according to how she is feeling.
"I just want to make people smile and show myself in a funny light," she added. "Sometimes I enjoyed playing a blue-haired troll. Sometimes my mood was more romantic. I still go with whatever I'm feeling.
“Even the Candy Queen from the Teenage Dream days is still in me. However, I wouldn't advise anyone to dye their own hair! It was a huge mission going from pink back to black. I had to get professionals involved, or else my hair would have fallen out by now!"
Katy Perry ignores online criticism online and insists the web isn't somewhere you go to ''boost your confidence''.
The 'Unconditionally' hitmaker doesn't take what is written about her too seriously because she wants to protect her own feelings and avoids searching for her name on the internet.
In an interview on UK station BBC Radio 2, she said: ''[I take criticism with a] pinch of salt. Absolutely. I would be a full exposed body wound if not. I mean it would be bad. I mean it's not nice but the internet is not a place where you go to boost your confidence.''
Katy's main criticism of the internet is that there is no editor and the anonymity often brings out the worst in people.
She explained: ''It's almost like the wild west on the internet. There is no editor, or the God. There is no accountability. That word you actually cannot even look up on the internet.''
Katy - who is dating musician John Mayer - also revealed she likes to mix up her style in her music videos because she doesn't like taking herself ''too seriously''.
She added: ''I like to be both, looking pretty and self-deprecating because that's important. I think something important for me to do, is to not take myself too seriously.''
