Pope Francis a brave man going into such a conservative, "set in its ways" institution like the Catholic Church and actually putting in a good effort to make changes.
In the short time he's been there he's made progress towards making gays more accepted within the church, extended an olive branch to Atheists, opened up the church to previously forbidden fruit (like science), and legitimate concern for the poor, among other things.
I'm not a religious person but there are a lot of people who follow the Catholic Church, so anytime the Church moves towards acceptance, the world as a whole does. And that's commendable.
He hasn't pushed those beliefs on anyone, though. You're choosing to be offended by it, some of the greatest humans in history had backwards beliefs (Ghandi was a racist) but that doesn't change the positive impression they made on the world.
