I just noticed I have no black or asian friends. All my friends are white. I live in the most multicultural city in the world btw.

I've seen this happen all my life, especially with people of a certain skin color or cultural background naturally gravitating towards each other. Like at my high school all the asian people knew each other It does make sense though, you feel comfort around those that are similar to you and you know you'll be able to connect to them easier because you have something in common. I'm kind of the opposite, I tend to go for people that are different to how I am, I'm a girl but I prefer guy friends, I'm white but for whatever reason feel more comfortable around non-white people, maybe I have some type of self hate issue going on or something

I guess for me finding comfort due to the sole fact we share the same skin tone doesn't work for me.
I have to be around you and know what you're about black or not it just wont work if you're an asshole or don't at least respect my hobbies.

Yes, close the book on him.
My group of friends is diverse as hell. I've always been the type to mix it up, to see what other people are into, etc. You learn a lot from being with others who aren't like yourself, whether that be color, sexuality, religion, female, male, rich, poor or when it comes to something simple as certain activities or hobbies. I refuse to be boxed in. Some people seem scared to venture out, tho. It's not like you're being forced to jump out of a plane.
Anyway, seeing this thread makes me realize why some people think the way they do when a race debate starts here.

If you live in the most multicultural city in the world, really think, why is it that all of your friends are white? Is it from a common interest? How many people are you friends with? If it's only a few I get it, but if it's a lot of people you don't really have any excuse; it's hard to believe every minority you've ever met has something wrong with them.
This is always a very sensitive subject you have to tiptoe around because some people really don't want to sound racist and I can't uncrack your subconscious from a handful of sentences on a pop music forum. However, something does sound fishy here, especially if it's as diverse where you live as you say it is...

No, and it never will be. We are all different not to segregate, but to learn from one another..
But of course the small minded people of the world cannot accept what's different from them.

People will do what they want, but no, segregation based on race/sexuality is just stupid. I can see arguments for segregation based on wealth and education though.

yeah. i mean, you connect more and understand things better with things you're familiar with.
yeah i interact with everyone and i love all religions, sexes, races etc. but you really do tend to stick with the people who pique your interest

I am pretty sure OP is talking segregation by race/religion/orientation etc. Everyone segrefgates by interests/behaviours, even those who segregate by race. Anyways I sort of do because I feel a lot more comfortable and experience a lot less racism as a result.

I totally agree. I mean, you can't be friends with someone if you have nothing in common you can talk about.

surprisingly, I have plenty of black friends who treat me as one of them (IRL of course...on this board, not so much ). Some even let me call them "slave" as a term of endearment (which they call each other for some reason). I don't think it's awkward to acknowledge cultural differences. The only times I feel awkward is if/when I have friends who are extravagantly more rich than I am (and they show it off) or those that are a lot more poor than I am (and can't do some of the things I like to do for fun like travel, eat at michelin-starred restaurants, etc).

I believe this is a natural thing. I am not racist and I hate racists, but its a normal thing to be closer with people who have the same "race", religion etc.
I feel very uncomfortable when I am the only black person around white people.

I don't have a lot of close friends, like the ones I hang out outside of school. I think only about 8 and they're all white. I don't even know how we all became friends (most since young kids) but we're really close and I don't know why we're all white it just happened. But in school I have friends that aren't white, I have a lot of Indian friends actually but they're not as close and I don't chill with them out of school.
