And there are parallels between the LGBT Rights Movement and Black Civil Rights Movement of the 60's, but they are mostly superficial. Black people were able to unite and successfully fight for equality due to a shared culture, history, and ancestry. The gay community is much more diverse, spanning across every racial, religious, social, economic, and political spectrum, making it much harder to form a united front and appoint a single "leader".

Idk, but it's rather annoying that we still have to give people a pat on the back for announcing their sexuality.. or the fact that people feel that they still owe someone an explanation for their sexual preference.

"Coming out of the closet" in today's society is one of the most pivotal parts of a gay person's life. Nobody comes out of the closet for attention, coming out is about seeking the support of your friends and family, assessing if their love for you is truly unconditional. Coming out to the world is the most liberating experience I have ever gone through. If you're not a part of the LGBT community, you simply don't understand.

I get what you're saying, but I feel in general it's sad that people still have to do this. I told my mother I was bisexual not because I felt I needed to, but because it was a topic that came up in a conversation. I don't need anyone to accept me and I can give a rats ass about what people think. You simply don't owe anyone an explanation of your life.

I just wish more people felt that way.
