Recent history of pop can indeed be dividend into two distinct eras: the first one a before-Britney or "pre Britney" era which was sort of male-dominated (Madonna was an exceptional anomaly - her rise in the mid 80s did NOT spawn a followup of successful female stars modeled after her (unlike Britney). And besides Madonna herself is not purely girly pop but a blend as she's modeled after Michael Jackson and Grace Jones as much as any female predecessor.

So then this current, anno-Britney female popstar or "diva era" we now live in, is indeed without-a-doubt an immediate and direct industry reaction to the initial success of none other than Britney Spears.

Exactly. And Britney has never been 'important' to pop music after the teen pop fad ended. She has never been taken serious by the general public or to critics, nor is she an artist by any means.

When I think of ARTISTS, I think of; Kate Bush, David Bowie, Stevie Nicks, etc. Not a generic pop star who is manufactured with a discography that consists of generic, disposable pop music.

They were "artists" pre-Britney and were some of the top artists of their time, but as the article stated, post-Britney, the top artists are..well...you know who they are. And it's no silly coincidence that it has been this way ever since Britney came on the scene.
