Every year, Syco Music (the record company co-owned by Simon Cowell and Sony Music) chooses five or six contestant acts from "The X Factor" U.S. Top 10 to sign to record deals. The winner is automatically included as part of "The X Factor" grand prize.
Several insiders have told me that Cowell has already chosen his favorites, but there are a few contestants who may or may not get signed, depending on Cowell's fickle nature and how marketable he thinks these contestants are. But right now, country trio Restless Road, boyfriend/girlfriend duo Alex & Sierra, pop singer Ellona Santiago and rocker Jeff Gutt are currently the four contestant acts most likely to sign with Sony Music, regardless of where they end up in the competition. All four of these acts have made it to the Top 6 of the show's contestants of 2013.
R&B singer Josh Levi and and Latin pop singer Carlito Olivero are "on the bubble" and may or may not be signed to Sony Music, depending on some things that may transpire before the end of December 2013.
It's important to emphasize that "The X Factor" U.S. contestants of 2013 who will be signed to Sony Music won't be signed until after the show's Season 3 finale on Dec. 19, 2013, when the winner is announced.
With the signings of these new acts, that means Syco Music's roster will have to make room for them. Syco Music is a boutique label that can only accommodate a certain number of artists. Therefore, some other artists with disappointing sales will have to be dropped. The harsh reality is that the music business is often like a game of musical chairs, and those who under-perform and haven't caught on quickly enough with the music-buying public are edged out by those who are considered more likely to make more money for the company.Source
