We had this group of student teachers (From the UK) come in my class today and the topic came up. As we were asking them questions, one of them mentioned how we all had "accents" (the rest of them agreed) and I was just like...you people are the ones with the accents though

This is a dumb question so I am glad you realized that before someone else told you. Everyone that speaks has an accent even if you are surrounded by people that sound like you, you still have an accent.

Yes, always. The closest thing to "not" having an accent is, at least in my opinion, a neutral midwestern accent (which is fairly common just north of me) and even that is still technically an accent.

If you are trying to argue that American-accent English is the "standard" English then NO That would be English spoken in, you know, the country where the language originated and the one in which most standardized listening tests are performed around the world: BRITISH ENGLISH.

That's sort of true about a lot of us. For example, General American, which is the same accent tow which I referred earlier as being prominent in the Midwest, has a very low number of regional identifiers compared to other accents. You can usually tell, for example, when you're speaking to someone from the southern half of the US or from England.
