If the world did not give you the privilege of having a culture where you are considered the norm and there aren't countless stereotypes associated with the color of your skin then you might have a different outlook on this. Consider that next time you belittle "oversensitive" people.

I agree. I don't think her performance marginalized Japanese people. It was a bit stereotypical and shallow but that is my only criticism. The racism claims I find a bit much and people become so easily excited when there is a lot of buzz going on about something like this.

But wearing traditional wear? So if she wore a Cleopatra a outfit would she be racist toward egyptians? Or if she wore a belly dancing outfit offensive to the middle east? Or if she dressed all Carnivale is she now racist toward latin america? Where in the hell do we draw the line?

I don't see wearing traditional wear of a country or being inspired by the countries traditional fashions as racist. It's all an appreciation of the art. Fashion and style is art. Whether historical, cultural, or religious.

Now when your painting your face or mocking how a certain culture talks or steroptype on the cultures NEGATIVE traits thjen yeah; but simply wearing an outfit? Not to me.

But if Katy really wanted to tribute Japanese culture, it comes off as insincere and ignorant when it appears she did nothing more than read a wikipedia page and throw together every monolithic Eastern garb and prop she could find.
