Jennifer Lawrence’s Katniss Everdeen is burning up the box office — though early returns show “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” probably won’t match the original’s opening this weekend.
Based on Friday matinee sales, industry observers estimated the launch frame for the U.S. would finish between $135 million to $150 million domestically.
That’s a monstrous total that could place the Lionsgate tentpole in the top 10 domestic openings of all time, but will trail “The Hunger Games,” which is sixth on the Top 10 list with $152.2 million in March, 2012. The first “Games” carried the advantages of opening amidst the massive popularity of the Suzanne Collins book trilogy and when many of its target teen and young adult moviegoers were on spring break.
I think it'll have better longevity, though. Like I know that a lot of people haven't read the second one yet, and probably will in coming weeks. I'd say just ride it out.

ya and it's already doing really well overseas. It's still early so I feel like it'll still open above the first.
I don't see that happening. It's way too early.. hell, it's still Friday evening and they're already judging on Friday box office sales when the day isn't done yet. But then again, the original did set the bar very high so it wouldn't be too surprising, but it's definitely not gonna be a massive drop. Also, it'll certainly have a good deal of longevity, even with Frozen and The Hobbit coming.
EDIT: Also, this article is still saying between $135-150 million, which is still amazing. If it gets the latter, it'd still be only $2mil below THG's opening.. not bad at all.
Hopefully Thanksgiving break will mean lots of re-watches. I'll be going at least two more times.

There's already so many people talking about seeing it again. My mom and sis are going to watch it another time soon.. either tomorrow or during TG break (mostly because my mom fell asleep during it because she was so tired. )

Reviews have nothing to do with its gross. Sequels tend to gross less than the originals. It's still to early to tell, but BoxOfficeMojo also said it was going to open a little bit lower than the first one. What matters the most is its gross worldwide, which is having a massive increase from the first movie.
