I don't why people say this. Like, I can basically do as much as I do on my Mac, on my iPad.
I can torent & download my files directly (like mp3's, movies etc) with no Jailbreak.
I stream stuff through apps easier (and I can download shows/movies through iPlayer etc. which you can't do on android etc.), check my e-mails, type my documents and surf the web (plus more which I don't do).
People act like iOS is extremely limited, but it's not. It's just like MacOS, it's designed for the user not a clean slate for the user to build.
Most people like an out of the box experience (hence why the Kindle Fire is the best selling Android tablet) rather than a clean slate like a Nexus or Windows Tablet etc.
