I didn't know TRL heavily supported it though! Interesting. I wonder what TRL would be pushing if they were around today? Would they have gone the Ariana/Selena/Demi/Miley route? Would they be pushing the pop girls and rap heavyweights? Would they be pushing EDM the same way hip hop was pushed in the 90s? It's so weird to think of all the 'what if's that we'll never have the answer to.

Back in 2006 and 2008 I would occasionally watch TRL and they would always bring up Miley's new wadrobe or Vanessa Hudgens backstage High school musical antics. They even had a segment on TRL just for Disney Stars.
I agree with you for several reasons.
Mtv in 1997 decided to promote pop acts & soon afterwords pop acts became the defining
sound of pop music.
Mtv is known for hoping on the newest trend and ride the sh i t out of it.
The thing is this lil era did not last at all. After 2008 Miley was showing her mature signs
and most other Disney Stars were an afterthought minus Demi and Selena. But I can say
Mtv would be pushing them well into 2012 if it wasn't for Gaga and Dance Pop breaking through.
This era was weird tho because many could tell they were trying to artificially create stars.
I can def see Mtv thinking oh this Tween pop thing is getting big lets hop on it
to ride its success.
