That TLT video... She's dead to me.
Btw, can we talk total sales for Red now after 2 massive smash singles made by MM, one moderately-successful MM single, 1 flop in US Pop, 1 bubbling under hit, and 2 moderately-successful Country singles? 3,8M in US? Any update on WW number? With Max Martin and all those producers, it's just doing a little better than Preach Now? Any explanation?

The fact that she makes music that appeals to kids, teens, and adults is why I think she is doing well where others are failing. She has one of the broadest and largest fan bases of any artist out right now and I think it's going to help sustain her career for a good while.

1- The album market in general has shrunk. Keep this in mind.
2- Red made her have smash singles again. Without Red, she wouldn't have had really successful singles anymore. Just moderate single success which would have caused her album sales to shrink in the long run.
3- Red is selling faster than Speak Now and "all those producers" didn't help commercially at all and weren't meant to (except for MM) cuz BMR did not want/refused to release the songs they produced as singles. MM's productions were made for singles, so once they finished releasing them, the singles started stalling cuz most of the album isn't radio-friendly as she didn't intend to make it radio-friendly, a la Speak Now.

Yet at the end of the day, total sales of Red is on par with Preach Now. Does Taylor Swift of all people really need radio and smash singles on Pop that much? So now commercial success is first priority, not overall album quality and the flow? Isn't it basically the opposite what She preached in the past? How fickle.
Faster? Maybe. But still.......... hihihihi.

Still what, siS? You got clocked. end of.
Red has sold north of 6 million WW while SN began to stagnate at 5. Selling an extra million is pretty significant in this climate.

How so? She's pretty immune to the album sales decline. If anything, Red should have sold at least on par with Fearless. Considering that She has the respect and stuffs than any other pop girls. She has wider audience reach.
And in the US, compared to the smash-less Preach Now......
Actually anticipating sales of next era. With more Max Martin single(s), will it tank or doing just like Red. I mean, after willingly cut all Her edges and misleading a lot of people to what the album is all about, and veering away from Her strongest selling points...... Will a few coins worth it all or not? Short-term success in exchange of Long-term success? Stay tune.

You have a point. But this how I see it: Borchetta motivated her to work with MM because he wanted radio hits (He didn't tell her that reason of course, he told her that Red's chorus needed a "lift") and she accepted cuz she actually likes his work (she grew up on Britney and NSYNC) and is not opposed to working with him. She has not sold out, but Scott did.

Wasn`t "Speak Now" era also dead when it was time for Grammy votes to be in? Will the history repeat itself? She will get some noms due to "HDC" but i think they really messed up chances for "IKYWT" and AOTY. But we will see.
The way BMR handles eras seems so out of proportion to me. They really do well with the lead single and first months after the album release and then like completely stop caring. I wan another "Flawless" era.

It's definitely started by Scotty Bee. But! She could have said no. Does Max Martin sound fit her? Does Max Martin sound fit Her brand? Isn't Her selling point all this has always been about "authenticity" and having different sound from the turds on the Pop & mainstream Country scenes, despite making Pop/Country songs Herself? She has more than enough money. Surely was very popular, even though not 24/7 on public's consciousness.
Quoting Skittles, you go to Max Martin solely for commercial success. (Skittles my bae knows what she's talking about. Girl plays and studied music (business).
Why bother with singles market when you could have sold more tracks with an album? Plus, going with the study on music buyers, young people can't be bothered to pay for music. If I'm Scotty's boss, I'd have fired him already.

You don't get my point. Yes, one goes to MM for commercial success, yes, I agree. And that's what Scott did, not Taylor. She could have said no? Yes. But why would she? Taylor actually likes MM's productions, that's what she grew up listening to. And besides, isn't she the one who wrote the vast majority of the songs they worked together on? She didn't let him change her musical identity by still writing the songs herself and just letting him edit. That's what she does with Liz Rose too...and you never objected to that
And, yes, Taylor's music has always been different than her peers of the same genres. And it's still that way, sans WANGEBT and 22. Are those songs bad? Maybe 22, WANEGBT not so much (it's not a masterpiece, but it's OK). The rest of the album is the usual Taylor. The same Taylor we've always had. Scott sold out on those 2 tracks and Taylor didn't object because she actually liked them imo. I think she actually wanted to try this. And besides her transition into full-on popstar was unavoidable. It was only a matter of time. She's always had strong pop influences/has always liked pop music and she would have wanted to try the popstar sooner or later. Let her try the popstar, the country-pop star and everything she wants until she chooses to be what she wants.
I agree with the "Why bother with singles market when you could have sold more tracks with an album? Plus, going with the study on music buyers, young people can't be bothered to pay for music" part too, but you can say that to Scott, not to Taylor. She did her job. He's the one who never revealed his true intentions to her.

Liking his production is one thing, but working with him because Scotty invited him is a different thing. Like, you can love/enjoy shite, but please know that they are shite at the first place. What MM did was cutting down the Taylor sound to almost non-existent. Quoting MM himself:
Quote:
I want to be part of every note, every single moment going on in the studio. I want nothing forgotten, I want nothing missed. I'm a perfectionist. The producer should decide what kind of music is being made, what it's going to sound like--all of it, the why, when and how.
|
Liz Rose is just there sitting in the corner, being cute and editing, not sticking ha **** to Taylor sound. MM is one basic ****. He may have an ear for melody, but it's "ME ME ME" with his track.
She shouldn't be shocked though, that older audience wrote her off/jumped the ship and losing some respect. She basically asked for it with a lead single titled "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" and the one sided promo plan (look at how big the promo for MM singles/Pop, and how little effort She gave to promote the better-written songs.)
I don't buy Taylor the victim anymore here, since this is a woman in Her 20s, running an empire and an 8-year veteran. Girl is clearly not dumb. And certainly knew Scotty's intention. Am buying Skittles' words that She was actually unhappy with a lot of the decisions been made.
Not using songwriting as weapon my arse. Then what's up with that candids on Conway studio (where MM works) right after the break-up with mophead? Maybe not weapon, but to gain advantage definitely.

What candids are you talking about?
And besides, why did Skittles leave the base? Did she stop stanning for Taylor? Plus why do you think she's so knowledgable?
Anyway, I agree with you on the one-sides prom plan and ignoring the better written songs, but I disagree on the Taylor not wanting to work with MM thing. I mean, even Carrie worked with him. I think Taylor was actually interested and wanted to work with him, if not Red, then on another album. He's too big a producer to ignore. She would have worked with him sooner or later really.
But yes I agree on the timing to work with him was just for the purpose of getting hit singles. Whether Taylor knew that or not...that remains to be seen. I really don't know. She shows nothing but gratefulness to her label and it doesn't look fake, whether it's actually fake or not. She's a very good actress (in real life, not in front of the camera, I mean). She can hide her emotions well, so I wouldn't know.

Candids in LA, right after the breakup. Combined with words on the street, I'm not buying the whole "Max is my hero and I love and want to work with him."
Skittles became a stan dating back to '06. A hardcore stan, I may say. Since she knows where and what were played at the early gigs. Plus she has friends working in the music biz. Knows what's going on the in the biz as well. And a musician, all around music geek. Great fella.

I'd love for skittle to come back, even though she despises me with a burning passion. Oh well, it was deserved.
And I view the whole MM thing as Scott saying "you have to work with a pop producer" and Taylor saying "Fine, if you're making me do this, I'll do it with MM." Idk, it all seems so out of place for her, someone who likes pop, but predominantly praises the indie/alt/rock crowd.

Of course Taylor knew what she was doing with MM. She has always talked how much she loves to be on the radio. I mean
