We’re one step closer to meeting Dad.

CBS on Friday ordered a pilot of the How I Met Your Mother spin-off How I Met Your Dad.

The network is calling the buzzed-about comedy project a “kindred spirit” of the original series — only this one tells the story of a relationship from a female point of view.

CBS also notes that HIMYD will be a brand-new story with new characters (lest you think that ****ty Pumpkin was finally going to have her day in the sun.)

HIMYM‘s Emily Spivey, Carter Bays and Craig Thomas will write and executive-produce the potential series alongside 20th Century Fox TV.

This will be interesting! Hopefully it will do better than the Joey spin-off from Friends, but if it is a whole new cast then the show will be really different.

Oh, I thought it was going to be a show about the mother meeting Ted. Nevertheless, I'm not sure I would've liked that anyway. Can't wait to see this show!

Why is it not called How I Met Your Father instead? That sounds better

A completely new cast is the correct way to go about it, so good that they're doing that.

I hope they approach the concept differently. Like maybe season 1 finale = meet the dad. Season 2 = dating. Season 3 = break-up. Season 4 = get back together. Season 5 = married.

HIMYM stayed that successful? Crazy, I stopped watching after the 4-5th season..

I read another article and the producers said that they want a completely new show.

All the main characters will be new. The pilot will be a stand-alone, not a backdoor pilot.

I don't think the protagonist will be one of Ted's girl, but I hope Ted & Co. will cameo in the new show
