Whitney and Janet helped paved the way for African American pop stars seeking international prominence breaking down the color barrier for black female artist, they also became the first African American female artists to receive heavy rotation on the VH1 and MTV networks, which made them achieve numerous of #1 singles and albums locally and globally.
Artist like Alicia Keys, Rihanna, Beyonce greatly benefit from them
but of course what goes UP must come DOWN
with that being said, "MUSICALLY" is Beyonce and Rihanna bigger than
Janet and Whitney were never pitted together. Whitney was a vocalist and Janet was seen as an entertainer/performer. Janet was the antithesis of Whitney and elevated what a female performer was suppose to be(see Britney, Beyonce, Ciara, etc.) The only thing they have in common were they both were influential to female performers/vocalists regardless of color.
