I was originally going to say that Katy mistook a simile for a metaphor (LIKE being hit by a car), but then I realized it is really a metaphor in the video but she phrased it as a simile (or at least I think she did).

Mess. She was THIS close to being hit by a car back in 2012 at the MMVAs. There was a hilarious video, but I can't find it now.

You not liking the storyline doesn't mean it doesn't have a storyline. Teenage Dream is her only video without any storyline, and I Kissed A Girl is the only one with a weak storyline. The rest all have very clear narratives that anyone who has watched them should be able to follow and know what's going on.
