I think you don't fully understand where the criticism comes from then. I'm not saying they aren't financially successful atm. (Btw Google's stock market worth dropped by 1,5% after this update, just on a sidenote.)
Youtube is making it harder for the average Joe from the streets to be active and contribute to Youtube by implementing these additional hurdles. They should have gone with a more sensible, careful approach and NOT make G+ accounts a requirement to even view comments on videos, let alone comment yourself or reply to comments. Instead they could have tried to merge both, by implementing Google+ comments on videos in ADDITION to regular Youtube comments. No one would be upset then.
And you do realize that the ones who are most affected by this are active Youtubers who upload videos? They are now forced to create Google+ pages whether they like it or not if they want to keep interacting with their audience. Kind of a dick move when many people really don't want G+, is it not?
