Actually, a lot of us don't get a **** about the charts. Yeah, it's nice when your favorite goes to number one, but if you're only a fan b/c of perceived success, it's not legitimate. There are peaks and valleys in an artist's career.
It's so unfortunate that ATRL (and many fans) now need the charts to validate their love of an artist. I've been saying for MONTHS that Britney's (or any artist I stan for) chart success (or lack thereof) does nothing for me. The girl has had an amazing career; all I want is good music. No one can take away Britney's accomplishments and as long as she keeps making music I'm happy.
There was a 10 year gap between Britney's first number one and her second. A lot of her songs after were popular, but wouldn't be "smashes" by the standards of today's fans. Oops, Britney and ITZ didn't have any #1s; few top 10s and even fewer top 20s. So if we stanned for her when she wasn't lighting up the charts then, why would we care if she isn't doing the same now? These are the things the haters and non-fans need to take into account.
