Let's talk about it track by track shall we?
Aura is 8/10. The verses are great. I like the production. The Chorus is amazing, but something about it
lacks that mega replay value that many of her other songs have; thus, 8/10.
Venus is 9/10. I loved this song INSTANTLY. It's campy and fun and just a bit messy. The chorus really saves the messy production.
G.U.Y. is 10/10. It's a future single and reminds me of LoveGame on steroids. The bridge is one of Gaga's best moments in her discography.
Sexxx Dreams- 10/10. I don't know why everybody's been bitching about this one. I loved the Swinefest version and I love this version even more. I ADORE the bridge. And the production is divine.
Jewels & Drugs - 7/10. It's not horrible. I actually really like the song. It's different for Gaga but the only thing that I yearn for is more Gaga and less rapper.
ManiCure is 9/10. I like this one. It's fun and catchy but fun to sing to even if I can't really relate to it. The breakdown is what makes this one a 9.
Do What U Want - 9/10. It's Gaga's most NORMAL song to date. I love that. The production and vocals work so well and so does R. Kelly no matter how unscrupulous he is.
ARTPOP is 10/10. As soon as I heard it on Swinefest, I knew it'd be one of if not my absolute favorite on the album. I will steadfastly drag anybody who thinks it does not deserve its spot on the album.
Swine - 7/10. Back to another dip in quality. Unlike when it dips in J&D, the lyrical content is what I don't like about this song. The vocals are hard to enjoy to. It's a shame because I LOVE the production but I don't care for the rest as much as I do other songs.
Donatella- 10/10. Back to true Gaga-form. It's tongue in cheek and it's funny. Whether it's really saying something artistic or not, I could care less: the beat knocks and the lyrics are fun to sing. The chorus reminds me of something but I have yet to place it. All I can think of is Icona Pop or something. I wasn't expecting this song to be so good.
Fashion- 10/10. I don't know why people hate this song. This song is STRAIGHT UP groovy. I love the Marry The Night reference and I love that this song is finally a slow-down in pace. It's just fun and simple & easy listening. It's not her most interesting track if you will but that's not what purpose this song serves and that's okay.
Mary Jane Holland- 9/10. Could easily be on Born This Way. The production is clanky and sometimes it's hard to determine what she's really saying. That being said: I love when she pulls out the russian hookers and gin type lines out. And the whole I could be fine If I could be MJH tonight is so divine. And this song shines in that it reminds me of so many different Gaga songs and even other artists songs all at once. The strongest references are Bloody Mary and The Queen which is funny because the former is considered a masterpiece and the latter trash. This song definitely doesn't blow you away on first listen but by the 3rd listen you're hooked.
Dope- 7/10. The final dip on the album. I like the melody but wish the production was just the piano. The song itself doesn't seem to belong on the album. It's a good song to listen to when you're feeling down. I heard it today in my car before my art history class today, and I just finally got it. I couldn't listen to it in full until that moment, and even though I'm giving it a 7/10 right now, I'm sure I'll want to take it back in the future.
Gypsy- 10/10. The Edge of Glory? Sure, they're similar but Gypsy has something more interesting about it. I think maybe with a higher quality file, this song might sound a bit more clean but as of right now and the only aspect that The Edge of Glory wins. Lyrically, this is one of my favorite Gaga songs of all time already. And the but I can be tonight line is just so so so good, one of her best moments ever. And the last half of the song radiates so much happiness that it's impossible to hate this song. And the imimimimiimimaagypgygpygpgygpygpgygpygspgyspgsygsy p (melodramatic I know) line isn't as bad as I thought it'd be.
Applause- 10/10. I don't care what any of you people say: this song is FameGa meets MonsterGa cross-bred with BTWGA and you get ARTPOP. I love the verses and how quirky they are. I love the blazing chorus. And most of all, I love the vocal delivery on the verses. It's so much like Bad Romance to me that it's not even funny. Quirky lyrics but so much fun.
