Your entry is nothing more than a Paris Hilton: Pretty but without substance. You’ve told me what songs you like and at what time the song became important to you. So what? Why should I care? What personal piece of information have I learned from this entry? I found out more about you from your meltdown after Episode 4 than from this entry. What now? At least with the meltdown, I’ve learned that you are hard on yourself, a perfectionist and most importantly, had a fighting spirit. With this entry, all I saw was “I like this song cuz I was feeling ___.” There was an attempt of you trying to shine with your “Hurt” blurb when you teased why Xtina impacted you in such a way but as with the rest of the songs/blurbs, that too fell short. There is a difference between just scratching the surface and sharing a piece of you on a more personal level. What this was was a summary of a poorly detailed outline of your musical preferences between 2003 and 2012. Also, there is a lack of cohesiveness with the songs you’ve chosen to present because you’ve failed to umbrella your entry under a solid theme.

We are judging the actual content provided on WHY you chose those songs, out of MANY, to represent your music taste. I just felt like I didn’t get that WHY aspect as much as I wanted it to. You did tell why, but you barely just touched the water on WHY those songs represent your music taste. I just wanted something more; I didn’t dive into your choices like I wanted. Your layout and aesthetic presentation remains great though!

Sorry, let me get the one “ ” comment I have out of the way. Some of the wording throughout your entry is reminiscent of my style, especially from my Music Taste entry. Is this a BTW/Express Yourself kind of situation or is it a Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger/Stronger situation? I’d like to think it is the latter; you took my vulnerable theme, reworked it and made it your own. To be honest, I always have this image of you being this brooding guy, not quite emo, not quite comfortable and this entry (some blurbs better than others) shed so much insight into your personality and your struggles. This whole concept of you being a survivor was elevated by you tying in your songs from the very beginning of your journey with music. People know you on here as an electropop pig **** so that first blurb was a great eye opening addition to this entry and it was perfect how you ended your entry with a song that perfectly describes where you are at mentally and musically in life. I will say that nothing about this entry fits the brand you selected for yourself, but in a way, I’m fine with that cuz that “humor” brand is just not who/what you are. This darker melancholy aura you have going is something that I generally associate with you so in a way, this is the first time you’ve been faithful to yourself and the first time I am convinced about the authenticity of your entry.

I appreciated how it all flowed and you got deeper into the meaning and really took that chapter concept and made it work. While you gave an example in each chapter, you left it open so that there was a certain kind of music that could easily be replaced with something else. I feel like I really got to know you through your music taste.

I'm the youngest in my family so I'm used to making fun of my siblings for being old. Now suddenly I'm the old one of the group? No. NO. I refuse to accept this! I don't care how early I go to bed or how much the idea of staying out bores me. I will make the most of the night like we're gonna die young. I will live like we're dying. I will quote more songs about death. You guys don't understand how quickly time flies. I'm about to turn 25 soon and I have no idea where it all went. There are distinct memories in my mind of times when I was the ages of everyone in the competition. It's so sad that everything flashes by but we're too caught up in our lives to even notice it. I need a Disney movie to lift me into someone else's life so I can appreciate mine better.

I don’t understand how you chose a song entitled, “For Reasons Unknown” and then rat off a list complete with details as to why you acted out the way you did. It was a bit oxymoronic to me and bothered my logic. Thankfully, you redemonstrate your value with the subsequent songs by tying in topical references to your checklist of realizations and picking up steam to the end. However, while you are the most loyal to your brand with every entry, this was an entry where the “humor” was almost overbearing. Our love for music is what brought us to ATRL in the first place. By ourselves, listening to music is probably one of the most genuine things we ever do in life. There is no need to be lying to ourselves, no need to sugarcoat, no need to bandwagon…it’s just you and your music. What we like is what we like. With that said, some of the way you comically word your phrases make your entry seem disingenuous and makes the rest of the blurb seem forced. You need to realize that sometimes, all this personality needs to be reeled in, not because it’s a bad thing but because that shows another dimension of yourself, a more genuine and raw dimension that I have yet to witness. I don’t need another Femme Fatale, I need a Britney Jean.

I have to point out, bring out to the forefront, and say I’m proud of you for openly being able to say you were a bully. There are a lot of people who have bullied people and have never had the courage to openly say they were one. That takes a lot on a person to openly admit something like that. I’m glad you say through it and got better with the situation and are no longer a bully. Back to your entry, I also liked how you still were able to fit in your brand [Humor] without it being overbearing and making your entry look fake.

Also, why do three of the blurbs contain song lyrics (with some that aren’t really aptly utilized nor have the significance explained very well) while two of them don’t? But more than the lack of consistency, it is the lack of a direction. Yes, I can see that you are utilizing a timeline just like the other contestants this round but for some reason, I do and I don’t get a sense of cohesiveness from your entry. The songs obviously mean something to you for you to have included them in your entry but something about the entry comes off artificial to me. I’m not sure how to clearly get this across but it is as if you forced either a backstory onto each of the songs or you forced a song onto a backstory. Regardless, I felt a lack of a flow, which totally could have been something to do with me, and wasn’t very absorbed into the entry. I will say that you adding in a blurb for the future is interesting but the execution with a Whitney song just didn’t live up to the potential that blurb could have had.

Each one of your songs had a certain event that was very meaningful to you and why you’ll always love and never forget that certain song. Now, I hate crying and it’s hard to make me cry… but, your ‘The Future’ portion had tears welling up in my eyes. It was the part of you saying those words to your future husband is what got me; beautiful.

Because of that, even though you threw a lot of text at us, I felt like I absorbed nothing by the time the video was over. Also, the map makes it painfully obvious how un-international your taste in music is. Not a bad thing but just an observation. An observation that was made ironic by the last word you chose to describe your music tastes with: wordly. As for your content, I feel like you focused more on analyzing the songs than on what and why you chose a certain song. It most certainly was “direct,” just like how you branded yourself but ineffective. Again, this is not necessarily a negative thing but a just a different approach…an approach that feels a bit insubstantial. Every tidbit you shared about each song was rather generic and could have been said by anyone at any time. There was nothing unique about the way you described what each song meant to you; I learned nothing new and personal about your taste. Just that you like the songs for the same reasons millions of others like those songs.

Probably because it was well liked by the judges the last time you did it. It was a nice touch and something different from the others. While it was a video, I felt like I wasn’t able to connect with your words like I would have liked. When I was reading, I was getting mixed reactions from myself. You explained your music taste and why, leaving me 75% fulfilled. However, that other 25% wanted more on WHY. You work that MacBook effects though.

These garish, over the top, extravagant entries need to stop. I know that you’re putting effort into making it “cool,” but the fact of the matter is, your entries are always too damn busy. The content, the most important part of your entry, is getting distracted by all the different font colors, the various background images, etc. The song abstracts were also very unnecessary from the entry. We all have computers and we all know how to Google. If we want to know when a song came out, we can look it up. Don’t incorporate menial information that contributes nothing to the entry. Having said that, I hoped the content itself was strong enough to rise above the clip art heavy entry. Did you succeed? Not in the way I wanted you to. All I learned was that your music tastes evolved with what was popular at the time. You’re going to argue that Foxes doesn’t fit my generalization but she really does, i.e. Clarity. Nothing original, nothing eye-opening. You talk about how some songs make you “feel” and how it “hits” you…but that’s it. It just makes you “feel” and it “hits” you. Where are the five W’s (who, what, when, where, why)? Why do you picking these songs make your music taste stand out? What happened that these 5 songs still stick out to you? There wasn’t any passion behind your words and the cause and effect tone of your entry was rather shallow, meaning you didn’t care to share why that particular song meant anything to other than, “fun,” “tolerable,” “branching out,” etc. Everything you’ve shared was stated so matter of factly that I was left bored.

You did give some personal aspect as to WHY you chose these songs, but for the most it seemed like it was all secondary reasons and never more primary/personal. Things like Disney, TRL, underperformers, seem more like the big reason on why you chose the songs. I just didn’t get much of that personal aspect as to WHY, I did on a few, but I just wanted more.

Okay, I might be an outlying opinion on this one but I've gotta be real. You're kind of...fading, to me, at least. I always read the entries without names attached, then go back and critique. Sadly, I couldn't remember much of yours because it was so...unoriginal. It wasn't YOU. You usually have such a distinctive voice and presence but I'm not getting it. Maybe I'm wrong. Hopefully that's the case.

Ugh at the cutoff. A good fifth was left unread. Nevertheless, you promised me a musical journey and a musical journey is what I got. With the first song, you start off with an intro sharing with us what you think represents you as a person but it was the segway into your mom and your sisters story that elevated your entry to a whole different plane. Those two blurbs provided great insight into where you were coming from and your...integrity, for lack of a better word, that came to be due to your relationships and that translated well with the songs you've chosen. I also liked how you chose a song that you stumbled upon by yourself. Discovering music by yourself is probably the most unbiased way of judging a song and if you happen to love that song regardless of it's acclaim or lack of, it means just that much more. Farewell was a bit of a left field choice for me but the blurb that went along with it made perfect sense. You described yourself as a free spirit who isn't bound to a specific category and to find a song by an artist who emulate your ideals was a great touch. One thing that I'm seeing again is your tendency to iterate and reiterate and reiterate again your points throughout your entry. Be sure not to get to redundant. I have very little patience.

Let’s just go through the three adjectives you gave that describe your music taste. Personal. I did get a personal feel on the songs chosen, more so on a few than others. Mellow. Yes, it is indeed mellow. Eclectic. Sort of kinda saw it, but wish I saw more of it if you are going to choose that word. All in all, mellow is what I’d describe this entry. You explained why, would have liked a little more WHY, but you still explained yourself. However, I was bored while reading your entry. Much like the songs, it just all flowed at one speed with no ups and no downs. Nothing really captured me into the moment to WANT to continue reading, expect when I read Fleetwood Mac recorded “Landslide”. It then took me off on a tangent to learn that The Dixie Chicks were not the original group to sing the song.

A few things:
Thanks to Matty for getting the feeling I was trying to emit.
Edge- This entry was definitely not artificial. Everything that I said was true and came from my heart.
Formatting- Well, it looked great without the quotes. And, I sent Matty a revision. I guess it didn't really matter at that point. Plus, Matty was busy all weekend, so I guess that's part of the reason why it was never updated.
And I do feel as though this is my best entry that I've submitted this cycle.
And yay for Spain!

You should have known that you were going to be ranked very high this week. We felt more connected to you than ever this week and it was universally praised. Your entry was very heartfelt and we all felt it as sincere. You finally broke your #2 streak as well, so keep up the great work!

Each week you just keep on improving and climbing higher in the rankings. From the comments, specifically Edge and I because Katie kind of had an age freak out, you still need to find that balance in your humor. While I appreciated it a bit, Edge didn't really care for it. You're starting to find yourself in the competition, now you're just fixing the bits and pieces.
Congratulations, you are still in the running to becoming ATRL's Next Top Member!

The fall From the top two weeks in a row, to almost in the bottom 2! Your entry this week really didn't show us much on your music taste. From the three of us who submitted comments, we all wanted something more. We already know you are the best presenter in the competition, but that can only get you so far. Now that the numbers are dwindling down, you can't hide behind your presentation in hopes that it will save you.
Congratulations, you are still in the running to becoming ATRL's Next Top Member!
YOU ARE GOING TO VALENCIA, SPAIN!
Will Rem and Nicki please step forward.
I only have one name typed out in the Gold font below and that person will be moving on to becoming ATRL's Next Top Member.
Rem --- Welcome back to the bottom two. I'm having mixed reactions with you being in the bottom two this week. On the good side, I see so much in you, so much top member potential, but you just haven't found it yet. On the down side, for me you deserve to be in the bottom two because your entry was not that good. It was on par with Domino's for me. While Edge and I weren't too happy, neither was Kitt based on her rankings, Katie loved your entry. You were her best this week. You have supporters, you just need to believe more in yourself.
Nicki --- Welcome back to the bottom two as well. The last time you were in the bottom, you went home. However, the next week thanks to the comeback series, you wowed us judges with a video, and even would have been ranked first instead of Domino had you not be eliminated. This week you are in the bottom because of a video... the irony? For someone who is known in this competition as doing something different each week, recycled a praise concept and failed. It was in a different style, but the video made less of an impact on the journey aspect as us judges hoped for. You too have potential, you just need to find your niche again.
So who stays?
6) NICKI

Congratulations, you are still in the running to becoming ATRL's Next Top Member!
You've got something and you have that drive to succeed. Or else you would have just ended up like the others in the comeback series and just not do it. You want to prove us that you are a Top Member and show us. You've got something, let's just work it out Onika.
YOU ARE GOING TO VALENCIA, SPAIN!
REM
AVERAGE JUDGE RANK:

The reason why your here is because you gave up. Earlier on in the competition, you stated you wanted to quit then quickly changed your mind. I think you didn't want to be known as a quitter so you were just gonna not work as hard to be eliminated instead of quit. Each time the judges comments were posted, you would always think you'd be in the bottom and that you were going home. Where is the confidence. You already have a name for yourself on ATRL, half can be negative, and us judges all saw top member potential in you. Especially Katie and Red, they seemed to see it more than us other three. I just wish you could have saw it earlier on and bring it out because I thought you could have gone far. I wish you luck and I know this won't be the last we see of you on ATRL.
Keep an eye out for the next challenge tonight!!!
