I hate how it's generally regarded as taboo for a man to hit a woman, yet a woman hitting a man generally isn't thought of as a big deal. I don't care about stereotypes about men being generally stronger than women, it's the action of the hit that is the problem, not the force that it is done with.
So yes it was wrong of him to hit her, but no more wrong of him to hit her than her hitting him in the first place.
