Music News: Hurts started working on their 3rd album !

They've officially started working on their third album and Theo said that the wait won't be as long as the last time.
He also said that the record's shaping up to be quite diverse and that it could go in many different paths.

I guess this means that after the UK & EU tour, the Exile era will be officially done though.

Hurts have opened about progress on their new album, as they prepare to tie up their campaign for their second LP Exile with a UK and EU tour.
Speaking to Gigwise about what to expect from the upcoming record, frontman Theo Hutchcraft said that the album was shaping up to be 'diverse' - and that fans should expect it sooner rather than later.
"For us, it's always really exciting because we never really know where we're going," said Theo. "I guess we make pop music, but there are lots of different forms that it can take and we never really know where it's going to until we start making music. We've started writing songs, but there's a variety of paths that we can go down."

He continued: "Considering the types of song we wrote on our second record. We go in the direction of a song like 'The Crow' for instance, which is like a Tarintino-esque mid-Western American sound, or we could go down the route of a song like 'The Road' which is very Nine Inch Nails or we could go the opposite way entirely and make a huge pop record but I guess that it will always fit with us."

When asked if the album would have a particular sound or be another diverse mix like Exile, Hutchcraft replied: "We always try to make an album that covers all points of interest and I think that we're developing. Doing these two records and pushing it to the extreme in a pop sense with a song like 'Stay' and then turning around and doing the opposite, we now know the boundaries in which we exist.
He also added that the wait for the album certainly wouldn't be as long as it was between their debut and their sophomore effort. "It's definitely not going to be a long a wait this time, we want to keep working. The gap between albums last time was two and a half years, which was because we got swept up in it and had no time, but now we're constantly making music and new things so the next record."

Hurts recently collaborated with Calvin Harris for the single 'Under Control' with Alesso. Could Harris produce the next Hurts record?
"It's hard to tell," replied Hutchcraft. "It's a very different world, but Calvin is a genius. He's a fantastic songwriter and I've never seen anyone who produces records quite like him. We won't really know if we'll work with him until we know what kind of record we've made."

I think their next album will be a perfect mix of both Exile and Happiness.

I really hope it comes out next year !
But I do think that their label wants a Q4 release and I think it's possible too.
In the documentary on Exile, you can hear several unknown instrumentals and Adam said that they could end up on their next record.
Otherwise it'll def. be Q1 - 2015.

I wonder what's the new direction. A colorful era perhaps? Happier songs? and I don't know why Exile wasn't bigger than their first album. Sandman or Only You could have been singles, when ironically my least favorite song of theirs ever, Blind, was a single lol.

Well they weren't the 'fresh thing' anymore like with their debut.
+ the music on the radio was very different from the music on Exile.
Miracle should've been a hit though but radio was tough on them.

I think the next era will be a mix, I'm guessing that the label also wants those GP sales back like in the beginning.
The album still sold good though and their tour is sold out too so...

One thing's for sure, the lyrics will never be truly happy.

One thing's for sure, the lyrics will never be truly happy.

That makes sense. The Road is just too epic and Miracle always drew Coldplay comparisons so it was a little tough for them. Then a classic Hurts ballad, Somebody to Die For, was pushed.

It makes me wonder what their new lyrics will be. They look like they're having fun partying/traveling for the most part; and included in a somewhat celeb life since Theo collaborated with Calvin Harris (even though they go back) and Alexa Chung (l o l). I hope there's some happier energy with their new lifestyle since being depressed and unemployed in Manchester. But I can't really speak for the artist in that sense. Maybe it's like asking Lana to make happy music also lol.

I think it's more like this, Theo also said in the past that he finds it incredibly hard to write happy lyrics.
Sad lyrics are something that comes natural for him.
+ Exile was inspired by the parties/travels from touring Happiness and we all saw how happy that record was...

What could be a good path for the third album though, is to make something like Depeche Mode's 'Music For The Masses' album.
It's quite uptempo, electronic but the lyrics are still dark.
Overall it's quite a dark record but not as dark as, let's say, 'Songs of Faith & Devotion' or 'Ultra'.

OR they could make their own 'Violator'- that could be epic as well.
Either way, I'm sure that I'll love it !

Won't happen, they said multiple times that they could never write another record like that because of the circumstances that record got created in.
