The 16-year-old New Zealand singer has found fame around the world thanks to her pop track Royals, which is about how much she dislikes the lavish lifestyle many musician lust after.
She has also joined a growing number of artists who are tired of seeing shock tactics in the industry. Lady Gaga recently stripped naked at a show and Miley Cyrus is renowned for her sexy twerking, but Lorde thinks things have gone too far.
"I'm a feminist so certain things about pop music I find frustrating. I think pop is scarily powerful. There are a lot of shock tactics these days: people trying to outdo each other, which will probably culminate in two people f***ing on stage at the Grammys," she told Q magazine.
"I try to keep my blinkers on and focus on making music."

She is the definition of a pretentious hipster, once she matures a little she will look back at some of the things she has said and cringe. I think it's funny that she obviously thinks she is so unique and special when she is just the byproduct of tumblr and music snobbery.

I can't stand her or her music mostly because she tries so hard to reject pop music for no reason. Pop music is popular for a reason and she is a pop musician herself. Her music is popular and uses pop structures, so instead of looking to the top 40 and lamenting how awful it has become, why don't you grow some musical literacy and reach out and see that pop music is actually vital, meaningful, and fundamental to music in general. You're not above it.
