Something I noticed today (and have noticed for a long time) with people discussing ARTPOP is the absolute dust The Fame is paid. People seem to think it's not on the same level as her other albums and there seems to be a lot of dislike and I really don't understand why. I loved the whole era and the album.
There are great pop songs like Just Dance, Eh, Eh (Nothing Else I Can Say, Boys, Boys, Boys, Paper Gangsta, I Like it Rough, some amazing ballads like Summer Boy, Brown Eyes, some of her biggest hits like Pokerface which has sold 7 million downloads, and one of her best song on ANY album- Paparazzi. The Fame itself is certified diamond which is pretty amazing for an album that debuted with low numbers. Despite the many criticisms it gets, it has a high score on metacritic and Rolling Stone called it one of the best debut albums of ALL time.
It's also spawned some of her most iconic, BEST performances
It's mostly only monsters who are bitter that BTW underperformed compared to The Fame, they're bitter The Fame is more liked than BTW, and bashing The Fame is their way of coping
Most debut albums don't receive much praise as not many people give it a full listen upon first listen. It's just of...there. I don't know how to describe it. Probably because most debut albums don't get big until after release.
I kinda like The Fame. Poker Face, Just Dance, Eh Eh and her best song, Paparazzi.
Haven't heard the whole album in a looooong time though. But yeah, like the above poster said, I think it's because The Fame Monster was better. I meant the music and not the over the top music videos.
I even saw a monster slamming TFM in the ARTPOP thread and saying how much worse it was compared to ARTPOP
I love ARTPOP but this incessant need to belittle her old works to prop up her new albums is sad.
Because it was overshadowed by 3 better albums that followed.
How has ARTPOP at all overshadowed it???? I honestly LOVED BTW, but the era itself wasn't as great as The Fame was in terms of singles, performances, and even sales which are nowhere near TF. And I don't get why TFM being an amazing album somehow means The Fame isn't allowed to be? It doesn't erase any of The Fame's accomplishments which it has many of.
I recently re-discovered Paparazzi and it has been slaying my life ever since.
The album as a whole is incohensive but the singles slay everything, they really did a good job picking those.
IDK why people ignore it, her most iconic look comes from that era, whenever people dress up as Gaga, they do it as The Fame Gaga.
I don't agree at all. Of the 14 main tracks - the singles were all great, which there were six of. So there's eight tracks left. Getting into non-singles, The Fame, Paper Gangsta, Starstruck, I Like it Rough, Summerboy are ALL great songs. That leaves only 3 mediocre songs that I think could be fillers and even those aren't terrible- Boys, Boys, Boys/Money Honey are fun and Brown Eyes is a pretty good ballad.
