05. Samantha Jade - Turn Around
- Australian ARIA Singles Chart: #83
I first saw her in the videos forum and immediately thought of Megan Fox (the hottie off of "Transformers"), so I gave her a chance (I'm shallow, I know). The song was an instant hit to me with an amassed number of plays on I-Tunes. There's something about moderate ballads like this song, "Too Little, Too Late," and the earlier charter "Over It" that I've always been attracted to. I am very unsure about anything regarding her music career. There has been no news about an album and I thought I heard something about an American release, but no PR has been done yet. Apparently, this song flopped in Australia too...so wut's going on?
04.Boys Like Girls - The Great Escape
- Billboard Hot 100: #23
Perhaps the song that has the most spins for me this year (surprise surprise, not from Utada) comes from Boys Like Girls. This song was just sooo catchy to me, I knew all the lyrics and the music itself just seemed pleasant. I could listen to it in every mood. Much like Relient K's "Must Have Done Something Right," this song served as my myspace song for the latter half of the year (which ensured lots of plays). I'd like to note that I listened to this song before it became big and when it did I was pleased to see that the general public was spinning it too (it just missed the Top 20). The 2nd single "Hero/Heroine" (another song I listened to before it became a single) is currently climbing the charts fast. Initially, I just listened to these two songs, but now that I got the CD for Christmas, I can enjoy all the other songs (NP: "Five Minutes To Midnight"). For some reason, I haven't decided if they are a band I'm gonna follow closely like Relient K, but I'm definately considering it for future albums. ^ _ ^
03. Shayne Ward "If That's Ok With You/No U Hang Up"
- UK Singles Chart: #02
So like I said, my countdown was chock full of American Idol/X-Factor artists and this is the 6th I believe. Shayne Ward was a new edition to my Ipod this month actually. I was searching for information on Leona Lewis on wikipedia and happened upon her predecessor. I youtubed a couple of his songs and immediately fell in love with both these songs, which were a double-A-side this year as well as "Breathless" (the current single) and "No Promises" (a single from '06). The lyrics are all very immediately relatable to me and again they represented the uptempo ballads that I have a weak spot for. He's often compared to Justin Timberlake (but a better vocalist) and really one of the few male artists that I like (I realized that I mostly have bands or female artists on my Ipod). I hope that he, like Leona Lewis, attempts an American crossover, where I'm sure people will find him very mainstream. As you can see, having just been discovered this month and already being #03, who knows if he'd be higher if I'd I have these songs sooner.
The last two are coming tomorrow...
