He's obviously a smart, on-the-pulse guy. Gaga's lucky to have him and he's lucky to have an artist like her. It's good that they aren't stuck whining about how the industry has changed but rather seeking to move along with it.

If they want to take the brand to new level of success then they're going to need to introduce marketing into the recording studio like the Katy's and Rihanna's do. Ergonomically design the product for the consumers for optimum response. It's all very well to make music for your fans, but that isn't how you grow. You're pandering to an already convinced core audience. They're a great asset to have, though.

It doesn't need to be extreme calculation and manufacture, but rather strategic creative. What do people like to listen to now? What will they like to listen to then? What do people like about my brand? What do they not? What can I do to improve x, y and z? Who can help me? etc. Basically: creative output is better when paired with consumer insight.

this is giving me that German interview where she licks her fingers and feels the wind...talkin about how she has a gift for sensing the tides.

they're so on their game and it's great that she has such a creative bolster and support system from her label. it seems like the synergy is really there rather than the abusive-manipulative control situation that most artists seem to have.
seems like they of course care about sales and airplay, but give her plenty of space to just be herself and express her vision.
