Tech: Anyone else having this issue with their iPhone?

I woke up this morning and drove to work and had NO PROBLEMS with any of my music on my iPhone, but once I headed off to lunch later on in the day, I noticed that certain songs would NOT play, and in some cases, FULL albums would not play and they would show this red square with a circle around it next to the songs:

Now mind you, it seems that this is happening to the music I acquired through.... other means, but the album in the picture above I bought PHYSICALLY, so it's happening to any kind of music I've acquired outside of the iTunes store.

I've been looking for a solution online for a while but NOTHING has worked. The only option left is doing a restore but I don't want to lose everything I have in my phone.

Has anyone else had this problem or is having this problem?

Mess, this happened to me the other day because I have all m4a songs (not purchased by me) and I switched a setting and it made iTunes like see all the songs I really did purchase with my Apple ID so only a few, and every other song was unplayable. It took a restore of both iTunes and my iPhone.

This happens to me too. It happens like twice per month or something. Every single song on my iphone that i did not buy on the itunes store cant be played anymore so i have to delete all the songs and put them on my iphone again. 1900 songs...so annoying because it takes forever and my play counts are all gone

It happened to me last year with teenage dream. The songs didn't even work on my computer so I just deleted the album and ripped it again and it worked!!

This happened to me with PRISM, I think it was because I allowed my phone to be synched via Wi-Fi. When I turned it off and added them with my cable manually it stopped.

Try signing out and back in to the Apple ID on the iPhone (Settings>iTunes & App Store>tap ID shown, sign out, sign back in) and then resyncing with iTunes.

Also go to the "Music" tab and check to make sure all iCloud settings are as you want them to be. It almost seems like those tracks are trying to be streamed from iCloud, or you synced them over Wifi and they didn't sync all the way.

This only happened when iTunes recognized the songs, and tried to update the information from my account, only to find that my account doesn't actually have these songs so it's stuck.

From what I've heard, it's trying to re-download those songs to your phone with all the correct information and your account details, in full quality but cannot find the songs on my account and so it's waiting.

This only happened with Pure Heroine, everything else has worked like a charm.

this started happening to me after i updated my phone to ios7. now i can't sync my songs properly because for some reason my phone can't read the music files

This happened to me with EVERYSINGLE SONG and I have over 5,000 songs. I just had to back up my phone, restore it, then boom. All better.

All Apple are trying to do is helping you out by making sure your music player files look like this:

It's actually the users fault because this only occurs when you use music files that you download from other people's music library's that haven't been fully DRM freed.

If you get rid of the DRM then you won't have problems with the files. People should do this before uploading stuff. The same happens with Amazon (although I think in the US they are DRM free), Google Play etc.

The only reason people are noticing this now is because Apple try to help you out by updating your cover art for you (you usually did it on the PC before syncing) and people aren't stupid enough to remove DRM from another account.
