The two leading characters are shown having sex twice in the film. The first time is just after a party, when the boy (Matin Hewitt) sneaks back in after the girl's parents have gone to bed. The sexually unfulfilled mother (Shirley Knight) of the girl (Brooke Shields) gets up and starts to go downstairs when she sees the teenagers naked and having sex on the couch. But instead of reprimanding them, she watches them longingly, as if she were witnessing something she does not have.
