I have the polycarbonate mid 2010 model. It's been the best computer I've owned and I've had 5 Windows PC's and three Mac's.
Snow Leopard was fast and perfect, Lion had more features but slowed it down with lots of glitches and bugs. Mountain Lion fixed the bugs but it was still slow. Mavericks has sped things up again.
I'm sad the same hasn't happened for you
