I'm almost 15 and i used to listen to it (Rihana, Drake, Nicki Minaj) ect.. i saw Justin Bieber sing live, and other various rubbish singers. But now i listen to indie/rock such as The Strokes, Two door cinema club, Artic Monkeys,The Vaccines, Vampire weekend, The libertines ect... But i showed my friends some of this music and they called it "rubbish" i don't understand why i even listened to 'pop' music in the first place. I just never had heard anything different really, is that the case? Pop music is all over, and you can't get away from it, on the radio, tv ect... i think i just listened to it because it was the only thing too listen too? Is this true?
This is possibly the worst song ever, if you are unsure why i have so much hate for pop music, listen to this-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6j4f8cHB...
No talent, no nothing but still ables to get 31,119,640 views, whilst the vaccines only get 74,590, it's so stupid.
Whenever somebody says 'real music' you know they're a dumbass. Oh you listen to bands from the 70s instead of mainstream pop music. Oh you're 16 and listening to the Beatles instead of Lady Gaga. Oh you go on Katy Perry videos and complain about how this isn't real music and how it's such a shame that this generation listens to that instead of Nirvana which you listen to, so that automatically makes you better and more intelligent. Because the type of music you listen to TOTALLY determines your intelligence level. Oh good for you teenage music savior who is totally different then all the other teenagers out there.

The complete worse, to be honest. Like, I listen to a lot of different music as well, but you'll never catch me acting superior or anything of the sort.
I like to think I have pretty good taste in music, and I do stan for some typical music snob/hipster favorites (Björk, Fiona, Vampire Weekend etc.) but you will NEVER see me tearing good pop music down. Serve me some classic Britney, LAMB, or 1D any day
I don't think there is anything wrong with culturing yourself in music and listening to stuff from way back when, but people who make it a point to make themselves feel better because they listen to music that isn't Top 40 or Pop or yadda yadda its stupid.
Music is entertainment, and everyone uses it for different things, there is never a right or wrong with it.
It's annoying. I hate when people criticize lyrics like "Yeah, these artists make good music, not that 'getting drunk at the club' shallow type of songs'. Ironically, I feel like its these people who don't realize that music is an artform and is used to convey the entire spectrum of the human experience, everything from the joy of partying to the sorrow of death and everything in between and just because one song is about something "shallow", it does not make the song any less beautiful.
Like seriously, I think Dancing Queen by ABBA is one of the most beautiful pop songs ever written and I hate how its viewed by many as the epitome of shallow pop music because of its lyrics and style, I feel like a lot of those people are just too close-minded to look past its lyrics or whatever and just enjoy the actual beauty in it.

Words can't express how much I hate this "hipster" fascination that's going on. Yes I would rather listen to mainstream pop than some indie singer awkwardly chant about how some monkey stole his butter (and yes, that song actually exists, I've heard it. ) I also hate the double standard that's put on pop, that nowadays it's all just considered bad music, they all need to realize that a lot of our music legends come from pop, their music was mainstream at one point.
