and both artist were deemed to be one hit album wonders, but they proved the world wrong

considering both albums ended up being Certified Diamond and have sold over 20 million worldwide

with "memorable singles"

and ironically THEIR BODIES AND IMAGE made a BOLD statement during the era

their Bodies and Image from their 2nd albums were/are trendsetting till this day...

Anyways, to answer the question, 21. 21 is still too new of an album to really tell but it's impact will become much more noticeable over time, especially as the industry continues to fall and develop a bad reputation as being overly sexualized, etc.

Rolling in the Deep is the biggest digital selling song of all time, only after I Gotta sFeeling. This is common knowledge around here.

It's far more impressive that a 17-18 year old southern girl without the best vocals could move over 20M units less than a year after her equally successful debut. Not to mention without the aid of digital sales. Pirating was very strong in early 00s too with cassettes.

This is such a biased and opinionated poll. Of course Britney is going to win. There aren't as many Adele stans on the forum to defend her. It's 21, without a doubt, but a lot of people are too stupid to realize how perfect that album is. Not everyone, but a lot of people – not all of them, but a lot – probably can't even give me three good reasons as to why Britney's album has had more of an impact. Like, I know, my comment is probably a little opinionated because I'm an Adele stan and every stan is incredibly defensive of their fave, but honestly... Even if I didn't like Adele, I would vote for 21. It had much more of an impact and according to various articles on the Internet, this album "saved" the music industry. Adele has turned around popular music as we know it and made the general public more aware of and more appreciative of music for what it really is; not generic pop crap, but real music with real emotion and heart and soul. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with dance music and stereotypical pop music, I'm just saying people need to have a bit of an appreciation for music that comes from the heart and soul and that's why I'm glad Adele made the general public more aware of the soul genre while also incorporating pop music into her stuff. Plus, 21 and its singles had a lot more success and impact than Britney's.
