I'm from Windsor so I'm basically an American-Canadian hybrid, but let me tell you this. Canada is basically the USA except we have a functional government (however with Harper in power this is questionable), some of us (excluding most of Southwestern Ontario) say things a tad bit differently, and it's cooler here (yet again, excluding Southwestern Ontario).

I did live in Calgary for a year and realized that it's hard to generalize such a large a spread out nation.

EDIT: Also, the weather where I'm from is comparable to Northern California I believe, and even hotter in the summer, so this might be the reason why I've never understood the cold weather stereotype
