At the same time, I think it's stupid when people are offended by words and name-calling. Like, who cares what other people call you? Some people are so insecure, it's sad for them. Obviously being called a ****** is a bad thing to do in the first place, but when it does happen, which it inevitably will, it's up to you to choose how you get affected by it. These words are only used because of the reaction they cause, and will only go away when they initiate no such reaction... and become redundant and pointless, thus no point in saying them. Like being a ****** is a fact, not an insult. Sure, it's a derogatory term, but it doesn't mean it isn't true. Same for racist words. Stop saying them AND stop being offended by them when they are said. They'll go away quickest that way. Of course that's easier said than done, though.

I don't agree with this attitude. Derogatory words are derogatory words and they have power, not because people choose to react to them, but because they've been used (sometimes for centuries depending on what word you're thinking of) to oppress a certain group of people- to demean and belittle them and people have every right to react to that, to get upset, or mad. Let's not put the responsibility on them not to be offended, let's put it on the people actually saying the words. They're the ones at fault.
