On the Howard Stern show, Avril Lavigne was asked about writing Breakaway and her thoughts about Kelly getting the song.
Howard asks her why she didn't record Breakaway given it was such big hit. Avril says she wasn't feeling the song after cutting a demo, but thinks Kelly did an amazing job. She also says Kelly is an amazing singer. She admits she sort of regrets not recording it but ultimately is proud of it. She even won an award for the song.
She also sings part of Breakaway and sounds pretty good! I'm not usually a fan but I have to admit Avril is pretty likable in this interview
Overall it was a great interview, not only that part, Howard did a good job on "pushing" her to give more elaborated answers and not the same recycled ones. I wish all the interviews were like that
Yeah I have to say the Interview was cute. Avril was likable and seems happy. Howard did a good job getting more detailed answers without being pushy. Avril with flawless answers tbh. Praising Kelly and tastefully accepting her due praise for writing the song. She sounded good too!
I think it might have been in Europe, but here in America it was very weird. Breakaway was originally recorded as a soundtrack song to The Princess Diaries or some **** like that and was released WAY before the album actually came out. I don't think it was originally intended for the album, but after it performed really well, they decided to include it and name the album Breakaway to attract fans of the song. SUBG was released almost immedately after the album came out though, probably because Breakaway was already out for so long.
The original lead single. Breakaway was meant to only be a Princess Diaries soundtrack single, until it smashed the charts. Kelly then decided to include it on the album and even title the album Breakway
Breakaway was originally from the Princess Diaries soundtrack but because it was so successful it got added as a single later. SUBG is technically the lead single. But maybe my fellow stands will disagree?
ETA: It was inadvertently flawless promo probably. The title track becomes a success from a soundtrack before the album gets released.
She sucks at interviewing tbh. But yes, best lead single of Kelly's
And Breakaway was initially released as just a promo single, but it was doing so amazing on AC and somewhat on pop as well, that they pushed back SUBG and the release of the album.
Originally released as a single from The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement soundtrack on July 2004, the titular track "Breakaway" was reissued as the album's fifth and final single on May 2006. After peaking on the Billboard Hot 100 at number 6, it became a top twenty hit internationally.
Yup. It was released to US radio in the summer of '04 for The Princess Diaries. It was re-released as the final single from the album in Europe in the summer of '06, after Walk Away.
I sense she is not very open, which would make interviews kind of..pointless. Good thing Howard kinda egged her on. That's why he's legendary.
She said in the Howard aftershow that she usually gives the same answers with interviewers since they ask her the same questions, but Howard really goes in depth with each question unlike other interviewers. It IS why he's legendary

He definitely IS
You can also tell he thinks highly of Kelly. You bettah stan Howard
