This poll is really dumb because why would you even question the presence of black people in the American music industry? You really think they have no opportunity, even when half the artists that people here stan for are in fact black?

But I do like that this thread is shedding light on the fact that Asians have absolutely no chance to make it in America. I never noticed myself that the only successful Asian artists in America are ones who are mixed and/or in the R&B world

An Asian main Pop girl would be really great. Especially since there are so many Asian people in the US. But for some reason they don't have their niche music like black people. I don't think Asians even want a successful Asian artist.

In Western music yes, Black people have more opportunity, but, largely due to pigeonholing of minority groups by the White mainstream coupled with the fact that the majority popular music originating from the US was created by Black people.

African slave spirituals birthed the Blues which in turn, birthed Jazz, Rock and Roll which birthed Pop and Rock, R&B/soul which birthed Funk, Hip Hop and Disco (also heavily influential in the development of Bluegrass and Country with banjo originating from African instruments created by African slaves in Colonial America and the Blues influences). Black culture has and continues to play a huge role in American music which is why there is such a disproportionately large number of Black people in popular Western music.

The White American mainstream is accustomed to seeing and hearing Black entertainers, musicians and singers (for many, many years, aside from being a servant, being an entertainer was the only area in which Blacks were involved in the lives of Whites) which is why it's easier for Black artists to make it in the mainstream. And then the larger minority groups in the US -- Blacks and Latinos -- with the rather large Urban and Latin US music and radio markets tend to support their own or those who assimilate heavily. So yeah, all of those factors combined really squeeze Asians out of the Western music scene overall. Most of the Asians listed in this thread are mostly seen as either just largely racially/culturally ambiguous like Bruno and Nicole Scherzinger (I know I didn't realize they had Asian heritage until recently...I thought Bruno was Black/White biracial and Nicole was Latina/Mestizo and White) or lumped in racially/culturally with Blacks even if known to be bi/multi-racial like Cassie, Kelis and Amerie. I guess that goes back to the music they make as well being seen as Black/Urban artists.

I think there's truth to it. Most Asians don't care about stuff like this. How many Asians do you meet that want to pop stars or models? Very few. Also, not many Asians are bothered being practically invisible in the media. On the other hand, you'll hear blacks and even Latinos complain about being underrepresented. Another reason is there's little pan-Asian unity. Koreans will support Koreans or East Asians will support other East Asians, but you won't see many Filipinos, Indians or Koreans supporting each other (or even being interested).

And none of these people are actually Asian. They're all mixed and recognized as such by people who are aware of their background. The only actual actual Asians mentioned in this thread are Freddie Mercury, Jay Sean and Far East Movement. The first is the only real success in music and he always pretended to be white so that says a lot.
