It would have been the opposite, because Aaliyah was so beloved by the the hip hop/pop industry. The way Rihanna circa 2009 got a pass. People only make fun of Rihanna because instead of being a victim she went the opposite way but take for example Beyonce. People used to hate her but because now she turned it around and she made herself the victim she's now untouchable and no one makes fun of her.
