Seeing as Teenage Dream came out in 2010, it's basically been 4 years since a Katy Perry release (sans The Complete Reject Bonus Tracks.)

So, 3 years later, is Prism as a whole worth the wait? Do you think you'll feel happy with this album for another 2 years?

I say this as someone who is not a KP fan, but the first half of the album completely slays careers. Goodness, flawless track after flawless track. After This Is How We Do though, the album flatlines into nowhere. Birthday and Legendary Lovers could virtually become some of my favorite pop songs ever, but I dont think this album as a whole tops Teenage Dream, nor do I feel like there's been 3 years of growth here. Obviously lyrically she's grown a lot since TD, but quality wise I don't feel like the album is much of an improvement.

I mean, if the last half of the album was as strong as the first half, I could see Prism taking Katy to a new career height she's never been to. The momentum has already started with Roar, but successful singles don't exactly help an albums impact.

I agree that the first half >>> the second half, but the second half does have gems like Spiritual (might be the best songs of her career). It's obviously a HUGE step up musically and lyrically for Katy so I think it was worth the wait.

I mean Spiritual, Double Rainbow, Love Me, Choose Your Battles etc are all some of her (if not) best songs.

Most definitely it was worth the wait. PRISM is full of substance, depth, purpose, and meaning. It has such diversity in it's content and the album takes on so many textures, qualities, and depth in it's sound. Katy is so much more confident in her own skin and has evolved and re-invented herself into a mature empowered woman and artist. I feel like she blended 50% One Of The Boys and 50% of Teenage Dream into a blend and mixture of dance-pop-balladry and it's the right balance of feel-good-confident-pop bops and emotional-thought-provoking-personal-intimate-balladry.

What is your problem?

Yes, lyrically the album from start to finish is great. Really impressed with Katy losing the cotton candy for something more real. Its just musically that the last half doesn't impress me with. Dont get the love for Spiritual though, I really can't stand it. It's a nice "hats off" to Frozen but I find the melodies boring.

It Takes Two is pretty huge though, I feel like it's the highlight of the end of the album. But I get some Demi teas with it.

Eh, I'd have to disagree. But then again, your opinion might be different if you like Katys ballads to begin with. I only ever liked TOY and NLTM. I feel like her strength this time around really shows itself in Legendary Lovers. Seriously great lyrics with pop sensibilities.


Double Rainbow was uber disappointing especially since I've liked every one of Sia's pop collabs till now.

That is something I noticed running to the album when it first came out. Katy really does sound completely confident and that she's found the sound she excels at. I'd agree, but the second half is just such a downgrade from the first half. I honestly can't tell if she just over-saturated the album with mid-tempos and ballads or if the tracklist could have used a better order.

International smile should have been thrown out the window though. I even feel like Katy doesn't want to sing it.
