Racism didn't disappear in society and it didn't disappear in the music industry. I do believe that record labels see race when they consider who to sign, how much promotion they get, and what kind of music they can create. A white artist can make almost any kind of music and there will always be a number of labels ready and willing to invest.

A few months ago Bruno Mars told his story about his experience with racism in the industry (a thread on this site that coincidentally got very few replies). If Bruno had to experience being told his music/sound would be best suited for a white artist what makes anyone think black artists don't experience the same at the very least?

Wrong. Music is deeper rooted in black culture than in white, so black children grow up with music being a big part of their life, so they have a higher chance of developping musical talent. White children who grow up in families in which music plays a big role have the same chances of developping musical talents. It's about upbringing, not skin color and you're comment is downright ignorant and racist, against both black and white people since you compared character traits with race.

Either way I'm just saying that black people can usually sing and dance better than white people. it has nothing to do with upbringing its just how it is. The best white dance I can think of is Britney but she's not even THAT good but because she's white and its rare for them to be good dancers her talent is exaggerated and magnified.

In the music industry yes imo. Remember that black people are 13% of America's population, I don't think they are underrepresented. The race that loses out is asians.

I agree with this comment. Naturally there are more white people in the US when compared to other races, so I think it's safe to say that there will be more white people attempting to attain success and therefore, obtaining success, not because their skin color, but because there are more whites than blacks. And to be quite honest, the music industry is the less racist field among other professions. I think the acting industry is very racist in comparison to the music industry.

The fact that the 2 most popular black artists don't look like India Arie/Seal says a lot.
