Kelly Clarkson Premieres New Christmas Classic “Underneath The Tree”: Listen
While Kelly Clarkson‘s “White Christmas” cover from her forthcoming Wrapped In Red Xmas LP is pretty much flawless, we were still eager to hear a holiday original from the singer. And now our premature letter to Santa has been answered with “Underneath The Tree,” and we are so, so satisfied. This one is strong enough that it could enter the pantheon of modern Christmas staples like Mariah Carey‘s “All I Want For Christmas Is You” and *NSYNC‘s “Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays.”
“Underneath The Tree” sounds instantly familiar — sleigh bells, laments about a lonely Christmas day, a sax solo — but with a tightly coiled hook and Clarkson’s transcendent voice, the whole thing is kind of invigorating. Singing “You’re all that I need, underneath the tree,” Kelly’s vocals soar all the way up to Santa’s sleigh by the end.
Wrapped In Red is out on October 29 (the perfect gift for trick-or-treaters!). Hear the Yuletide anthem below.

New Music: Kelly Clarkson - "Underneath the Tree"
Shame on me for thinking Kelly Clarkson's new Christmas song "Underneath the Tree" was going to be a ballad! The Texas girl posted a tweet last night (Oct. 17) saying her new single would be premiering today, as well as generously uploading an image displaying the lyrics of the song hand-written by her in a piece of red paper. "Underneath the Tree" is one of the original songs Kelly's recorded for her debut Christmas album "Wrapped in Red", which will be arriving in stores across the US on October 29th.
Co-written and produced by Greg Kurstin, "Underneath the Tree" is an amazing, positive up-tempo that has the sound of a true Christmas classic song. I am just loving the 60's production. The melody is so good, the lyrics are so nice, and Kelly's vocal execution is perfect. Santa Clarkson
