I so badly want a Nexus for those priority updates but I'm 9 days away from an upgrade on my contract I think I'll just get the Note 3. I'd love it to just have the stock android skin, Samsung ha uglee touchwiz skin

This is a pretty beastly phone, I'd love to try one in person (even tho I remain faithful to iPhone ).

Nexus phones aren't sold on contract. Just through the Google Play store.

Nexus' never last, though. The full-retail should be what it is considering next year...I'm sorry in the next 6 months it's going to be non-existent.

pre-paid is the way to go. Save you a lot of money over the 2 years.

I'm confused. What do you mean by never last? Are you talking about Google having enough of it to sell?

I think Google learned the lesson last year.....They didn't expect the demand to be so great. It went on sale. Sold out almost right away. And it took 2 months before they got more supply and put it back up for sales.

It was a disaster.

But I have a feeling Google will have enough supplies this year. AT least I hope so. The demand for the Nexus 5 will be even greater than the Nexus 4.

Google BETTER have 2 millions of them for sale in the first month. I think the demand in the first month will be HUGE. They sold 370,000 Nexus 4 in a few days. And it was gone for good until February.

The Oct, Nov, Dec production was sold to the lucky customers who got it before Google put up the "no more sales" sign. Even then, it took like 9 weeks for a lot of customers to receive the phone.

I hope the production will be like this for the Nexus 5 in order to satisfy the demand, otherwise it will be another disaster (order now and get it in 10 weeks).

No, I mean the shelf-life for any Nexus device is short. Compared to Apple and Samsung products, there's really no way for it to thrive therefore the only way for it to make any leverage is to have an inexpensive (for a smartphone) full-retail price.

They are all so good but my friends have the note 3 and omg the pic quality and the WATCH that phone is amazing

That's just your opinion. Can you give a link to back this up? The shelf-life for the Nexus 4 is comparable to the Iphone 5 and Galaxy S3.

It's inexpensive because Google is selling it at break-even. And by selling it online, there is no physical retail mark-up.

Look at the price of the Nexus 4 when it first went on sales:

Nexus 4 16GB on GooglePlay : $349
Nexus 4 16GB on T-Mobile physical store: $499

$150 more because T-Mobile need to cover overhead and profits.



The iPhone cost about $210 to make. But it's on sales unlocked at around $650 at Apple stores.

1) Google sells it at break-even
2) online retailing = no physical retail mark up

The Nexus 5 probably cost about $210 to make. LG will make a profit on it. For example, Sell it to Google at $260 for $50 profit.

Google will need to make some money to cover the marketing, tech support, customer service, returns, warranty, shipping from Korea to USA, warehouse, servers, billing, etc... ($90). Any left over is profits for Google.
